KNOWLEDGE AND INTELLIGENCE

Murugan was interested to know the difference between knowledge and intelligence. Hence, he went and approached his teacher. The teacher in turn directed him to a saint who was sitting below a tree. He also told Murugan that he should ask the saint " how much time will it take to reach the village nearby "?

Murugan was puzzled to hear this from his teacher . Any how he went near by the saint. The saint was closing his eyes .

Murugan to the saint : Swamiji , how much time will it take to reach the village nearby ? .

The saint did not answer . Murugan thought that probably the saint would not heard him properly . Hence , he repeated the question loudly. For, this also there was no response from the saint. He thought that there is no use of asking this saint and he was returning back. He walked through some distance . Then he heard that the saint was calling him to come back.
He again went near the Saint.
Murugan to the saint : Swamiji ,Why did you call me ?
The saint : You asked me how much time will it take to reach the nearby village. It will take about 15 minutes to reach the village nearby .
Murugan : Swamiji, You could have told this earlier . But , will you please
tell me the reason for not telling earlier.

Saint : I have the knowledge of the distance of the nearby village from here. But , I did not have the idea at what speed you are walking ? With my intelligence I could assess your speed of walking ,after you walk through some distance . Once , I assessed your speed of walking I could tell the time to reach the nearby village.

Murugan could clearly understand the difference between knowledge and intelligence.

Use available resources cleverly, judiciously and usefully. Success is certain

Once, Bheeshma approached sage Drona and requested him to teach the art of war to Pandavas and Kouravas .
Sage Drona graciously accepted the job. Though he was teaching all of them very well. Arjuna excelled others. There was a general complaint that Sage Drona was partial to Pandavas. One day Sage Drona called all the family members of Pandavas and Kauravas and told them, “Today, I am going to test the students. Please wait and see.” He chose two identical rooms and allocated one of them to Pandavas and the other to Kauravas. He also gave equal amount of money to them . He told them, “Please make use of the money and fill up the entire room. .
Kauravas went and purchased hay, sand, old articles etc. and filled up the entire room allocated to them. The room became dark. Nobody could even enter the room.
Whereas , Pandavas went to the shop and purchased beautiful lamps, oil and wick. They placed the lamps in different places of their room and lit them. The lamps were glowing beautifully and the entire room was filled with light .
The family members were asked to inspect the rooms and decide themselves who is wise. They understood the cleverness of Pandavas and appreciated them .
Pandavas spent the money cleverly, judiciously , usefully .
Use available resources cleverly, judiciously and usefully. Success and prosperity is certain.

Be bold and Confident , take calculated risk

A teacher announced a group of students that I will toss a coin and if you win the toss I will give you ten lakh rupees. On the other hand if you loose you have to give me one lakh rupees. No students came forward to accept this challange. All of them feared that they will not win the toss and hence may have to loose one lakh rupees. As a group they could have taken the risk. Even if they loose each one of them may have to shell out only one thousand rupees. Fear , devoid of self confidence and the boldness to take risk at least as a group came in their way of prosperity.

THINK TWICE BEFORE ACT

One day , a king ordered his servants to hang display boards containing the sloka "avicharitam na karthavyam , karthavyam suvicharitam – Not to act without a deep thought , but to act only after serious thinking. (By Bharavi –An eminent Sanskrit Poet )

Seeing this, one of his ministers wanted to know the reason for his deed. The king replied that he will come to know about this at an appropriate time.

Once, the king had a boil on his armpit. In order to heal the boil the court doctor suggested for an opration. On the stipulated day when the doctor was ready for the operation , the writing on the display board struck his eyes. Suddenly he kept aside the knife which he was holding . He went outside and brought a new one. Though the king observed all these happenings , he kept quiet. The operation was carried out successfully and the king got recovered completely.

One day he called the doctor and asked to explain the reason for changing the knife before the start of the operation. Trembling with fear ,the doctor explained to him in detail. Then the king instructed him to tell the truth in front of the court.

Next day, the doctor appeared before the court and said, " Because of the evil influence of one of the king's enemy I was about to operate the king with a knife smeared with poison , so that the king will die. But, when I took the knife for operation the writing on the displayboard struck my eyes and made me to think. When I thought deeply I felt my act was foolish and changed my decision. I am a sinner and I may be punished for my act of treachery."

When, the king turned his eyes towards the minister , the minister nodded as if he has understood the reason for the display board.
